Device Repair

The first job I ever worked I spent a lot of time doing device repair. It wasn't the only thing I did at the job but it is the most important. The skills I gained from troubleshooting issues, and repairing hardware have use within the IT industry. The photos are just a selection of a few things I have worked on in the past.

Phones

The vast majority of my repairs involved cell phones. Usually iPhone or Android, though we did repair other phones they weren't as common as these two. This normally consisted of screen or battery replacements. We did get a healthy amount of component repairs. The customer would come in and mention an issue they were having with their phone and we would have to test various component of the phone to find out the issue. Sometimes it was as simple as looking through the camera to see it wasn't working, to making a call and testing the quality of it. Sometimes, even when a repair seems straight forward it isn't. Water damage was very common and usually it wasn't enough to just replace a part but we also had to clean corrosion.

Batteries

Another task I had was battery assembly. I had to spot weld, shrink wrap, and solder components for battery packs. The devices these were used for varied from drill packs, to landline phones. The important difference between the different repairs was the voltage. The manner in which you welded them in addition to the the amount of cells you added to the pack altered the voltage. We generally made 12-18v packs, however, it wasn't uncommon to make a 2.4v or 4.8v packs for smaller devices.
